Consensus 2023

This month’s developer community call was a bit shorter than usual as many of our team members are traveling for the Consensus 2023 event, sponsored by Casper and taking place in Austin, Texas between April 26th and 28th. You can meet us at booth 255 or at the Casper Shindig- a side event hosted by Casper where you can have some fun with live music and free food and drinks! We will share our experiences from the event shortly.

Network Upgrades

Program Director Piotr Dziubecki has joined the call and provided us with information about the upcoming upgrades.

Version 1.4.14

Piotr started by discussing Casper’s current development progress toward improving the core platform. “We recently released version 1.4, and 1.5 is coming soon. In between, there is version 1.4.14 coming soon as a patch release. It's currently undergoing integration tests, and we expect it to be deployed to both test and mainnet shortly.”

The primary focus 1.4.14 update is on optimizing the database. By doing so, we can achieve a significantly smaller footprint. This is particularly important for validators as it ensures a smoother upgrade process to the network with no interruptions. Users won't even notice the upgrade happening in the background. We are happy to be able to upgrade the network seamlessly, and we're excited about the positive impact it will have on the platform's overall performance.

Casper Developer Portal Improvements

Piotr also touched upon documentation expansions and new implementations coming onto the Casper Developer Portal.

“Recently, I had the opportunity to travel to Poland to speak with technical students at the University. Our goal was to showcase some easy onboarding scenarios to help them transition from web2 to web3. These scenarios will be available on the Developer Portal soon.

The sessions are recorded and we are in the process of preparing materials and additional examples to make the transition as easy and understandable as possible. We're proud to say that we've received a lot of positive feedback so far, and we're thrilled to continue supporting our community in this way.

Our Developer Portal is continuously improving thanks to mutual cooperation between the Casper Association and Casper Labs teams. We're making sure that no developer gets left behind, regardless of their programming language. With our documentation, all developers should be able to find something useful.

Looking toward the future, we're also preparing a virtual space where developers can ask technical questions. We've noticed a lot of feedback with detailed questions about missing functionalities and specific features. We want to track these down and categorize them for future use. While we can't reveal too many details yet, one of our employees is working hard to create a small framework that will allow us to execute your requests.” said Piotr.

CEP-78 NFT Standard

Next on the agenda was CEP-78, Casper's unique NFT standard.

“We're continuously making progress in this area, and we encourage you to check out the CEP-78 repository. You'll notice that we've already released several versions, with plans for more in the future.”

“Currently, we're focusing on enhancing the eventing system for trading and royalties, with plans to implement on-chain licensing as we promised. Additionally, we're excited to announce that in a couple of weeks, we'll be available for you in Warsaw at NBX. If you have a project you'd like to bring to us, we encourage you to check out our agenda, where both business and technical personnel will be available to discuss your challenges and projects on-site. We're committed to supporting our community in any way we can, and we're excited to see what new innovations and ideas come from our collaboration.”

Casper Accelerate Grant Program

Launched in late November 2022, the Accelerate Grant Program was created to encourage projects building on the Casper blockchain, making it easier for them to innovate and grow on the network. You can learn more about the Accelerate Grant Program here.

We have received over 300 applications submitted by the community, and come of them are now in active development. Don’t forget to check out the recently updated casperecosystem.io for keeping up to date with new projects building on Casper.
