Greyscale AI Relies on Casper Blockchain for Secure AI Data Storage, Retrieval and Governance

Greyscale AI is piloting an initial batch of AI training data to CasperToday marks an exciting milestone for the Casper network: after months of behind-the-scenes development, Casper Labs and Greyscale AI are recording the first batch of Greyscale AI training data to the Casper blockchain. 20,000 lots were updated to Casper Mainnet, with 280,000 additional lots expected to be deployed to Casper over the coming weeks. This is just the first step in Prove AI’s broader roll-out, and already represents a significant increase in daily transactions on the Casper mainnet. This marks Prove AI’s first official footprint on the Casper network, ahead of its September launch. Since the spring, Casper Labs has been working with Greyscale AI, along with several additional design partners, as it develops the Prove AI governance solution alongside IBM.

Zooming in on the Use Case

Greyscale AI uses advanced machine learning and x-ray imaging technology to detect contaminants during the food packaging process – a process for which good AI governance is critical. It works with some of the world’s largest food distributors and retailers to ensure that contaminated food samples are isolated and do not reach the market."Good governance is key to establishing and maintaining trust with our Greyscale AI’s customers. We are processing massive amounts of complex computer vision and AI detection data on an hourly basis, and we must be able to securely manage and account for these extensive records in a manner that clearly displays not only what happened and when, but also provides necessary assurances that the data has not been tampered with. Prove AI is enabling us to do just that, and we've been pleased by the results of our work with Casper Labs to date." Stephen Doyle, CEO of Greyscale AI said.To provide quality assurance, the company institutes a challenge, by introducing an intentionally-contaminated sample at predetermined intervals. When Greyscale AI’s system detects contamination, the sample is removed from the supply chain before causing problems or triggering a recall. Its ability to isolate these and other contaminated samples from hundreds of thousands of individual data points provides the needed assurance that no tainted samples are making it through the system. Next, the data is encrypted and sent to Greyscale AI’s private network, which prevents any data manipulation. This encrypted data is then further anonymized and secured on the Casper public network, ensuring for all parties that every piece of data has not been tampered with and is fully verifiable. While ensuring data privacy, the quality assurance logs for each sample are readily available to all relevant parties. This all happens on Greyscale AI’s governance dashboard, powered by Casper Labs’ Prove AI.

What AI Governance Enables

Greyscale AI is the first public pilot of Prove AI. While Casper Labs anticipates that use cases will ultimately vary greatly, from large-scale quality control in food and industrial applications to financial services, software development testing and more, it’s a testament to the key and emerging role blockchain technology plays in AI governance. The primary objectives of the integrated AI governance system include:

  • Enhance Traceability: Ensure that every inspection event and image is securely recorded and traceable on the public blockchain and within Greyscale AI’s systems.
  • Improve Security: Utilize blockchain’s immutable ledger to protect the integrity and authenticity of inspection data.
  • Increase Transparency: Provide stakeholders with transparent access to inspection records and audit trails.
  • Optimize Data Management: Efficiently store and manage large volumes of inspection data and images using On-chain and Off-chain methodologies.
  • Facilitate Compliance: Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations regarding data security and traceability.
