Intro

As 2022 is well underway, the Board of the Casper Association summarizes its priorities for the remainder of the year ahead. Before we do, we would like to thank the community, the builders, and the Casper fans all over the world for their support, engagement, and overall loyalty.

We will soon be publishing comprehensive posts on each topic below — delving deeper into the most critical aspects of the Casper Network. But first, here’s what to expect over the coming weeks and months.

Casper Network Upgrades

The Casper Network will undergo a significant amount of technical upgrades over the next several months. The Casper Association will be implementing a unified communications strategy, across all its channels, with streamlined platforms for all interested parties to find the most relevant information and resources. These parties include developers, node operators, validators, customers, and others, with the goal of ensuring that the entire ecosystem can smoothly upgrade in the future.

Tokens Issued on Casper

The ability to launch tokens on the network is essential for projects building on Casper, as well as for the ecosystem and community at large. So far, both Ethereum and the ERC20 standard have enabled a large set of applications. However, the introduction of the Casper Network’s own Proof-of-Stake (PoS) token standard looks to take the ecosystem well beyond ERC20. Casper will offer features and functionality which will be unique compared to those offered on other blockchains, including APIs for maximum security and performance. The Casper Association will work closely with the community and their strategic partners to enable new wallets, listings, and exchange of tokens issued on Casper.

Casper’s Innovative NFT Standard

Casper is looking to leverage the most innovative and future-proof Non-Fungible Token (NFT) technology to enable entirely new business models and creator economies. NFT technology looks to fundamentally change how economies function, driving structural innovation in ways that are not yet imagined. The Casper Network aims to position itself as a major player in this future infrastructure by leveraging the functionalities native to Casper’s technology and unavailable on competing blockchains.

The Casper Association will release open-source software to the community, which will allow developers to build applications and business models powered by our NFTs. Critical infrastructure, solutions for creator key management, secure minting environments, and the secure storage of NFTs are just some of the first building blocks to be released by the Casper Association in the coming months.

Using Casper To Build Future DeFi and TradFi Capital Markets

Public blockchains, distributed ledgers, and tokenization provide the functionality to drive innovation and transformation across all areas of finance and capital markets. DeFi (decentralized Finance) has proven to be a major use case for blockchain, and the field has the potential to provide frictionless digital solutions for various use cases of TradFi (traditional finance). However, the Casper Association strongly believes that only Smart Financial Contracts (SFCs) built on the open-source ACTUS standard can provide the basis for consistency, interoperability, and scalability of future blockchain-based financial solutions.

For DeFi to fulfill its promise of financial innovation and disruption, it will require asset interoperability. This interoperability can only be achieved using an algorithmic definition outlining the underlying cash flows of the financial instrument, represented by a smart contract hosted on Casper. The Casper Association endeavors to enable well-tested decentralized financial applications built on open source standards that can be deployed in private, consortium, and public environments.

Membership of the Association

The Casper Association is governed by its members and the articles of association. With the completion of its membership platform, the Association will conduct all of its business in a transparent, accessible, and consistent manner. Furthermore, by its nature, the Association will be decentralized and governed internally — all while adhering strictly to the Swiss Regulatory Framework.

Only validators in the Casper Network can become Association Members, with the exception of the elected bodies of the Association, including the Board and other bodies which may be created in the future.

We look forward to providing more details on each of these priorities through blog posts and video segments over the next several months and beyond. Stay tuned.
