A Recap from Istanbul Blockchain Week 2024

The Istanbul Blockchain Week 2024 showcased the growing influence of blockchain technology in a wide range of industries. On August 12-13, 2024, Casper was in Istanbul as a proud sponsor and our team introduced the new AI governance solution on Casper, Prove AI, developed by Casper Labs in collaboration with IBM.

For those who couldn’t make it to Istanbul, Bart Stasik, Head of Ecosystem for the Casper Association, gave an insightful presentation, particularly expanding on the hot topic of AI and blockchain and how Prove AI is set to address the challenges of AI.

Bart Stasik, Head of Ecosystem at Casper, presents on AI and Blockchain at Istanbul Blockchain Week

Keynote: From Evolution to Innovation: The Casper Ecosystem and Prove AI

Bart began his speech with an overview of the Casper ecosystem: “The  Casper Accelerate Grant Program, launched in 2023, has seen over 500 applications with more than 40 projects receiving grants,” he explained.

“The growth in developer engagement is powered by new developer tools designed to simplify the creation of user-friendly applications. The CSPR product suite and the Odra smart contract framework are the main drivers in this surge as these initiatives eliminate barriers for developers new to the Casper blockchain.”

Prove AI Under the Spotlight in Istanbul

The main focus of Bart’s speech, and the event’s hot topic, was AI. Bart shared some statistics that emphasize the need for an AI governance layer on blockchain.

  • 64% of businesses believe AI will boost productivity.
  • However, the hallucination rate for leading AI tools is as high as 20%.
  • 75% of Forbes survey respondents expressed concern about AI misinformation.

Transparent AI systems like Prove AI address issues like data integrity, auditability, and compliance by leveraging blockchain’s tamper-proof infrastructure.

Prove AI, developed by Casper Labs in partnership with IBM, is a blockchain-based solution designed to enhance transparency, security, and governance in AI systems. By leveraging blockchain’s immutable and tamper-proof ledger, Prove AI addresses critical challenges in AI governance, such as data integrity, compliance, and auditability. Key features include version control, multi-party collaboration, and real-time certification, which allow businesses to manage AI training data securely and ensure regulatory compliance.

Prove AI’s architecture ensures that AI training data is not only secure but also traceable, mitigating risks such as data breaches and unauthorized manipulations. These capabilities will soon be utilized by GreyScale AI– a leader in quality control and delivers cloud-based, AI-driven solutions for automated inspection in the packaged goods supply chain, using x-ray imaging and real-time data analytics.

GreyScale AI has started recording its first batch of AI training data on the Casper blockchain. The first deployment of 20,000 data lots to the Casper mainnet is the beginning, with an additional 280,000 lots to follow in the coming weeks. With this deployment, Prove AI set the groundwork for its broader roll-out ahead of its official launch in September.

Why Casper is Ideal for AI Governance?

Bart highlights the three reasons below:

  1. Hybrid Blockchain Model: Casper’s model allows AI to benefit from public blockchain security while maintaining sensitive or storage-heavy data in private environments.
  2. Serialized and Tamper-Resistant Data Storage: Casper’s architecture ensures clear records of AI data access.
  3. Upgradeable Smart Contracts: Prove AI’s contracts can detect deviations in AI behavior and act swiftly to mitigate damage.

He wrapped up by inviting attendees to join the Casper ecosystem.

We left Istanbul with a renewed sense of enthusiasm, inspired by the atmosphere and the dynamic blockchain community in Turkey. Istanbul Blockchain Week offered a focused setting to discuss the future of AI governance, with Prove AI standing out as a real solution. The event gave us an opportunity to showcase how Casper’s work in AI governance aims to address transparency and security challenges.
